Project Details: Heritage 47 Windows and Doors to a Period Style Hertfordshire Home
This Hertfordshire project showcases our expertise in delivering exactly the right styling and design to windows and doors, when the client needs to get the perfect look. Designed in the iconic steel look, this project involves multiple Heritage 47 aluminium windows and doors to a substantial, newly built home designed in a refined period style. Although the architecture references classical proportions, the brief demanded modern performance, precise detailing, and complete consistency across shaped and standard openings.
HBD Systems were introduced to the client through Dusek Design Associates, a high-end residential architect specialising in bespoke private homes. The client had struggled to find a company capable of delivering arched aluminium windows with shaped astragal bars while maintaining correct proportions and a true steel-look appearance. The project required both technical confidence and proven experience with complex aluminium glazing.
HBD Heritage Windows are all carefully configured to suit each elevation. These include side-hung opening windows, fixed picture windows, and smaller units combining top-hung opening sashes over fixed lower panels. Particular attention was paid to maintaining consistent sightlines and glazing bar alignment across all window types, including the shaped arched feature windows.
Matching Heritage 47 aluminium doors were manufactured in a traditional French door configuration with some doors designed as French doors with side panels. These are topped with a feature beam and a bespoke shaped toplight, reinforcing the period character while allowing generous natural light into the interior spaces. Decorative feature posts between the doors and side panels were specified to further replicate the visual detail associated with traditional steel systems.
These elegant and ultra slim patio doors are provided throughout the home, opening in or out as well as fitted behind metal Juliet balconies.
All windows and doors are finished in RAL 9010 White Gloss, applied using Qualicoat-assured powder coating to premium-grade aluminium frames. The stepped sash profiles and ultra-slim 20mm glazing bars closely replicate the appearance of traditional steel windows, while providing the thermal performance expected of a modern aluminium system.
Both windows and doors are glazed with toughened safety glass, featuring a soft-coat low-emissivity coating, warm-edge spacer bars and argon gas fill. Art Deco style handles were specified throughout, specially coated in a matching white finish to maintain visual consistency across the scheme.
HBD Systems. Specialist in Shaped Windows
A key part of this project was the creation of shaped openings. At HBD, we ensure that any window or door with a curve, arch or non-standard geometry is fully templated at survey stage. These templates are used to establish exact manufacturing dimensions before production begins, allowing glazing bars, glass units and frames to align precisely. This approach removes risk, ensures accuracy, and guarantees that shaped aluminium windows and doors fit perfectly on site.
The interior design follows a restrained white palette, accented with stone floors, black-detailed marble, and contrasting ironwork balustrades. The slim proportions of the Heritage 47 system complement this approach, proving that aluminium windows and doors are not limited to contemporary architecture, but can be equally effective in classically inspired homes.
